NordVPN has passed another independent audit by Big Four firm Deloitte, affirming the VPN provider’s commitment to its no-logs policy.
As a no-log VPN, NordVPN doesn’t collect or store data about its users’ online activities. Deloitte assessed NordVPN’s IT systems and supporting infrastructure to verify its no-logs claim. This is the fourth time NordVPN’s no-logs policy has undergone an independent audit.
“This audit verified NordVPN’s commitment to privacy for the fourth time and confirmed that we do not track or log our users’ online traffic,” NordVPN said in a blog post on Tuesday.
The audit of NordVPN adheres to the International Standard on Assurance Engagements 3000 (Revised) for thorough and objective assurance procedures and follows the International Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants, ensuring auditor independence and ethical conduct.
Analysis Shows NordVPN Does Not Log User Activities
During the audit, Deloitte experts interviewed NordVPN’s staff and thoroughly examined the VPN’s server infrastructure, server configurations, and technical records. Deloitte was granted access to NordVPN services from November 30 to December 7, 2023, and conducted a thorough review of the privacy-related settings and procedures on various NordVPN servers, including its Obfuscated, Double VPN, Standard VPN, Onion Over VPN (TOR), and P2P servers.
Deloitte did not find evidence that NordVPN retains any data related to the websites its users visit or their IP addresses and browsing histories.
“Practitioners witnessed no signs that we in any way violate our no-logs statement. They supported our claim that we do not store any incoming or outgoing traffic data, including IP addresses, browsing histories, or websites visited,” NordVPN’s blog post said.
NordVPN’s no-logs policy was first audited in 2018, followed by two more in 2020 and 2022. Germany-based cybersecurity specialist Cure53 also tested the company’s digital infrastructure between July and October 2022, with positive results.
“We firmly believe that a no-logs policy should be an industry standard and that an independent assurance engagement by a trusted Big Four firm reassures customers of our commitment to a safer and radically better internet,” Marijus Briedis, the CTO of NordVPN, said in a press release shared with VPNOverview.
