Formula 1 is heading to the Red Bull Ring for the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix this weekend. As premier class F1 racing heads back to Europe, we’re gearing up for another Sprint race, which brings another opportunity for the drivers to score more points in their fight for the World Championship. Not only is the 4.318km track tiny for F1 cars, but it’s also incredibly fast — featuring just 10 corners, many of which are quick turns. With high-speed straights and heavy braking zones, there are plenty of prime overtaking spots here, making it the ideal venue for a Sprint race!

What to Expect at the 2023 F1 Austrian Grand Prix
Based on the last round of F1 action, there’s plenty to expect in Austria. The Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in Montreal treated us to an epic weekend. Qualifying was a stunner, with some shocking results, including Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez being knocked out of Q2 again. The rain caught a couple of drivers out, and we even saw Nico Hulkenberg’s HAAS qualify in second place, though he ultimately dropped down the grid on Sunday due to a penalty.
The Grand Prix was a game of chess as Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton fought it out for the second step of the podium, with Alonso taking it by a nose. Max Verstappen sprinted ahead of the pack as usual, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing for him. Thanks to some recent upgrades, he’s had to deal with some genuine concerns about the pace of the Aston Martin and Mercedes closing the gap behind him.
Verstappen charged to the finish line, claiming a historic 100th Grand Prix win for Red Bull Racing. All in all, 41 of those victories came from Verstappen, while 38 wins were contributed by Red Bull’s previous golden boy, Sebastian Vettel.
On top of being a monumental moment for Red Bull — who continues its 100% win record in 2023 — Verstappen also matched the great Ayrton Senna’s 41 Grands Prix victories. Lewis Hamilton’s 103 GP wins still remain the high water mark.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney invest in Alpine Racing
In other news, Hollywood actors and sports investors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have entered ownership of the Alpine F1 team. The investment group that the pair belongs to has injected €200 million into Alpine Racing and acquired a 24% stake in the French F1 team. Actor Michael B. Jordan is also another investor.
While many people might question this move from Reynolds and McElhenney, they’ve had other sports ventures that panned out excellently. The pair are also co-owners of Wrexham Football Club, a team that has turned itself around over the last few seasons, being promoted to the Football League as one of the best clubs in their division.
Alpine’s future could be much of the same, considering the duo’s impressive business portfolio. Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi is positive about the investment, stating that it forges a clear path to the front of the grid in 2026.
