2023 Italian Grand Prix Preview
All eyes will be on runaway leader Max Verstappen this weekend as he aims to break Sebastian Vettel’s record of nine straight race wins. The Red Bull driver equaled the record at his home Grand Prix last Sunday, winning his third Dutch GP in a row. The Italian GP could see Verstappen smash through the record altogether.
Verstappen has already finished in first place 11 times this year. With nine races to go, Max will be looking to surpass his 15 wins from last year.
Ferrari had an underwhelming performance at Zandvoort. Carlos Sainz finished in fifth place, while his teammate Charles Leclerc’s race culminated in a DNF. Team Ferrari will look to bounce back at Monza and break the Red Bull stronghold over the 2023 Formula 1 season.
McLaren let a potential podium finish slip through their grasps last weekend. Lando Norris started the race in second place, but the veteran Fernando Alonso overtook the Brit on Lap 2.
However, the blunder came when Team McLaren decided not to switch to intermediate tires when the rain started pouring. Norris acknowledged the bad decision and told media the team should do a “slightly better job” than they did at Zandvoort.
