2023 Singapore Grand Prix Preview: Can Red Bull keep it up?
Monza was a fascinating race. the start was delayed due to Yuki Tsunoda’s Alpha Tauri suffering an engine failure on the formation lap — and the Grand Prix was reduced by two laps. Once the race got underway, Max Verstappen scampered away at the front to win his 10th consecutive race. The battles on the track were incredible.
Sergio Perez used the Red Bull’s massive DRS advantage to make his way through the pack and finish in second place. Checo has been under fire for recent performances, and his future at the team is in doubt — it’s definitely a result he needed.
Ferrari put on an incredible show for the Tifosi as Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc fought each other right to the finish line. The Monegasque threw everything he had at his Spanish teammate, but in the end, it was Sainz who took the final step on the podium, in front of the passionate Ferrari fans.
However, Verstappen did have a slight problem on the final lap of the race. His Red Bull had a mechanical issue that caused him to lose six seconds on the final lap. If the race start wasn’t abandoned, and the Grand Prix had run the full 53 laps, we could have had a different winner!
Toughest race of the season
Singapore is widely known as the toughest race of the season. With high temperatures and immense humidity, the drivers need to be incredibly fit to endure the full Grand Prix.
It’s also the longest race of the season due to the length of the circuit, with the average time being around 1 hour and 45 minutes for the race to be completed. However, there has been a slight change to the track layout this season, and we should see the lap times drop by around 10 seconds.
Nevertheless, drivers always need to be fully focused at the Marina Bay circuit. If you’re not switched on, you could be in the barriers within seconds. That’s why this race has a 100% safety car record (since 2008), and we’re sure to see one again this year.
