MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix 2024: What to Expect
The opening race of the season in Qatar was a nail-biter from start to finish!
Francesco Bagnaia took a stunning victory, with Brad Binder finishing a close second. Jorge Martin took third place to round off the final spot on the podium.
It looks like the Pecco vs. Martin battle is set to continue this year as Martin took victory in the sprint. But Brad Binder has solidified himself as a title contender so far. The South African KTM rider finished in second place in both the sprint and the Grand Prix in Qatar.
Elsewhere, Marc Marquez seems to be getting back into his stride at his new team. The Spaniard finished 7th in the sprint and 4th in the Grand Prix, and he was setting some blistering lap times throughout the weekend. We know he loves Portimao, so he could be in contention for a win this weekend!
Rookie Pedro Acosta was right up there too. At one point, he was running in fourth place, fighting it out with Marquez. He’s clearly got the pace, but he lacks experience at the moment. The young Spaniard destroyed his tires too early and dropped down the field to finish 9th in the end.
Portimao is a completely different circuit, and it’s going to be interesting to see how the dynamic changes in the early fight for the lead of the championship!
