What to Expect for UFC 289 Nunes vs. Aldana
The UFC 289 Main Event was scheduled to be Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena in what would have been a third titanic battle. The “Lioness” Nunes took victory against Pena last July to regain her title.
However, with Pena picking up a rib injury, Irene Aldana has stepped up to fight for the UFC bantamweight title. Aldana could become Mexico’s fourth champion crowned in the UFC if she manages to beat the Brazilian Lioness at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Neither fighter will back down, and we’re sure to see an exciting challenge. Nunes is the early favorite so far, as she also holds a featherweight title and is widely considered the best women’s fighter in MMA history. Aldana, on the other hand, is on the verge of a third straight win after taking down Macy Chiasson and Yana Santos in her last two fights.
The co-main event is just as exciting. Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is going up against Beneil Dariush, who is still seeking his first lightweight division title.
