Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois: What to Expect
The IBF, WBO, WBA and Ring heavyweight champion Usyk heads into his latest bout as the prohibitive favorite (-910) to retain his titles. Usyk became the heavyweight champion after defeating Anthony Joshua in 2021. Consequently, the Ukrainian retained the belts in the rematch against AJ, which he won by split decision.
There’s no beating around the fact that this was not the fans’ first choice match-up, as the boxing world hoped to see Usyk square off against the Gypsy King Tyson Fury. However, after negotiations broke down and Fury announced his bout with Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia, the undefeated Usyk (20-0) turned to the mandatory WBA challenger Daniel “DDD” Dubois.
Dubois (+510) is the current WBA (Regular) heavyweight title holder, with 18 of his 19 wins coming by KO/TKO. In his last outing, DDD overcame being knocked down thrice to stop Kevin Lerena in the third round.
While Usyk is heavily favored, the 25-year-old Dubois has shown he has the heart of a champion, and former world champion Carl Frampton believes the Brit has more than a puncher’s chance on Saturday.
