NordPass now monitors users’ credit card data and sends security alerts if your payment details are compromised, the company announced on Monday.
Besides credit card monitoring, the Data Breach Scanner also has a new “intuitive” interface and now supports customized monitoring, allowing users to select which credit cards and emails to monitor.
NordPass has always monitored users’ emails and passwords. However, the new update ensures users’ credit card data is also covered.
“This means that you will receive notifications if your credit card details are compromised, and you can take immediate action to safeguard your financial accounts,” Tomas Smalakys, CTO of NordPass, said in a press release on Monday. “We at NordPass believe that adding credit card monitoring is a logical step, considering the increasing number of online transactions.”
NordPass’ Data Breach Scanner is only available for premium users.
‘A Sophisticated Alarm System’
According to NordPass, its Data Breach Scanner is like a “sophisticated alarm system.”
“Just as the system continuously scans for unusual activity, our Data Breach Scanner methodically combs through various databases that contain leaked information, checking if your stored data in NordPass, including email addresses and credit cards, matches compromised data on a database,” the company’s blog post said.
If found, users will receive “detailed insights into each detected breach,” including tailored recommendations on how to mitigate the effects of the breach and safeguard their privacy.
Meanwhile, NordPass said customized monitoring preferences — another new feature on its Data Breach Scanner — will increase the “relevance and efficiency of security alerts.” Users can now categorize breaches as resolved or unresolved.
The Data Breach Scanner’s new user-friendly interface will also simplify the setup process and improve usability, NordPass said.
Protecting Your Privacy Online
Tools like the NordPass can help to protect your privacy. Often, victims of data breaches don’t know their data has been stolen and made available on the dark web until it’s used in social engineering attacks and other criminal schemes.
When your data is leaked online, NordPass sends a breach notification and offers tips on how to manage the leak. For example, businesses may be told to prioritize customer communication, legal obligations, and review their cybersecurity measures. On the other hand, individuals may be directed to use more secure passwords for compromised accounts.
We’ve tested many password managers and ranked NordPass as number one, thanks to its affordable price tag and extra security features.
