Norwegian tech company Opera on Wednesday announced that it is adding a free VPN to its iOS browser. This makes Opera the first browser to offer a free VPN on its apps for all major operating systems.
In a blog post, Opera said its free VPN is a no-log service. This “means we don’t collect any personal data or information related to your browsing history or originating network address,” the company explained.
Opera already offers a free VPN on its Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android browser apps. This feature is now available to limited iOS users. Opera will roll it out to the public in the coming weeks.
You don’t need to subscribe, log in, or install any other extension to use the built-in VPN on the Opera browser.
“All you need to do is just hit a switch in the main menu and browse in peace,” the company said in its blog post.
Opera is not the only browser that offers a built-in VPN. The Brave browser also offers this feature at a cost.
New Opera Features
In addition to a free VPN, Opera is also adding a Bookmarks and Speed Dial feature to its iOS browser. On Monday, the company said it’s adding live scores from football games to its browser homepage.
“A scoreboard will display the day’s matches — whether they are upcoming, in progress, or the final whistle has already gone — so Live Scores will help make sure that you’re always on top of all that action, worldwide,” Opera said.
Opera added generative AI tools to its desktop browsers last month. It’s unclear when this feature will also be available to mobile users.
In addition to its browser-based free VPN, Opera also offers a premium VPN service with more features. Opera’s VPN scored 7/10 on our tests. Check out our Opera VPN Pro review to learn more about the service.
How to Get Opera’s VPN
Opera’s free VPN will only become available on its iOS browser in the coming weeks. Some regions may get the feature ahead of others, depending on the company’s rollout calendar.
To ensure you get it, set your device to install updates automatically. Updates are essential to keep your apps running smoothly and protected from security exploits.
