What to Expect for UFC 293 Adesanya vs. Strickland
The tension has been building to a boiling point set to explode at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia this weekend.
Sean Strickland’s wish has finally been granted — he takes on Israel Adesanya for the UFC Middleweight Title. UFC titan Alexander Volkanovski has backed Adesanya for this fight. On his YouTube channel, the Aussie fight legend said: “I think Sean Strickland is going to definitely pay for some of the things he’s going to say. Stylistically, I feel like he’s going to definitely get hurt.”
Adesanya is coming off a huge victory against Alex Pereira at UFC 287, where he avenged his 2022 loss against the Brazilian and regained the championship belt. His impressive record of 24-2-0 will be put to the test this weekend — his only other loss coming from Jan Błachowicz in a weight division jump — and Adesanya, now an established star in the UFC, is eager to defend his title.
However, Strickland was not his first choice as an opponent. Adesanya had a serious confrontation with South African Dricus Du Plessis a couple of weeks ago, and fans were excited to see the two bitter rivals let loose in the Octagon. Unfortunately, though, Du Plessis suffered an injury, forcing him to pull out of a fight with “The Last Stylebender.”
