As mentioned before, in the U.S. ABC will broadcast the event. If you do not have cable anymore you can also stream the event online. There are several different ways to stream the Oscars online this year. The ceremony will be available through FuboTV, Hulu, YouTube TV and AT&T TV Now in the U.S. Below you’ll find a guide that shows you how to access these services, even outside the U.S. by using a VPN. Moreover, we’ll describe how you can get the full night of entertainment for free.
Use a VPN to watch the Oscars?
Most of these services are U.S. based and you’ll need to use a VPN to fool them into thinking you are in the U.S. With a VPN you can change your IP address to make it look like you are in another country. ExpressVPN is a good VPN provider that can help you gain access to streams like this. The beauty is, they have a 30-day money-back guarantee so you can try it out for free.
- Get a subscription with a good VPN provider like ExpressVPN.
- Install your VPN and log in.
- Connect to a server location in the U.S.
- Go to FuboTV, Hulu, YouTube TV, or AT&T TV Now and sign up for a plan.
- Put your feet up and enjoy the show.
Watch the Oscars for Free
It might seem like an expensive night if you have to sign up for a VPN and a live TV option to stream. But what if we told you that there’s a way you can do it for free? It might take a little extra work, but it will save you some money in the end. The best way to do this is to use a trial period for a good VPN service.
For the streaming services the same method applies. SlingTV, AT&T TV Now, Hulu, FuboTV all have 7-day trials and YouTube TV has a 5-day trial. This way you can get a subscription just to watch the Oscars. Just remember to cancel it!
Note: This method often only works for those with a American credit card and/or a if you’ve signed up for one of these streaming service while you were in the U.S.
Why not use a Free VPN?
We do not recommend using a free VPN for several reasons. For the purpose of streaming a free VPN simply won’t do. Free VPNs always have a catch, either they use your information for their own gain or they throttle your speed and data, making streaming almost impossible. However, we do understand that you might not want to commit to a long subscription just to be able to watch the Oscars. That’s why we recommend you check out the trial periods of one of the premium VPN providers. This way you can try out premium service for free.
Bonus Tip: While you’re testing a VPN, why not look into all the streaming possibilities this gives you. For instance, a VPN will help you gain access to a larger Netflix library. Streaming is so much better without regional restrictions!
