What to Expect for UFC 290 Volkanovski vs. Rodriguez
T-Mobile Arena is already buzzing with excitement ahead of this Saturday’s UFC 290 event! Alexander Volkanovski is currently the favorite to unify the featherweight title. The Australian (25-2) is just returning from a loss to lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in February after moving up in weight and trying to nab a double championship. Amazingly, that’s Volkanovski’s first defeat in 23 fights across a decade! His current run of form leaves him tied at the top of the ESPN pound-for-pound men’s MMA rankings.
Mexico’s Yair Rodriguez is just as tough of an opponent, though. Rodriguez (15-3, 1 NC) is on a hot streak at the moment, and he has just one loss in his last six fights. The Mexican won the interim championship and shot to unify in February against Josh Emmett, and he’s currently number 3 in the ESPN men’s featherweight rankings — only ranking behind Volkanovski and former champion Max Holloway.
Caesar’s Sportsbook has Volkanovski as a -440 favorite, while Rodriguez wears the dog collar at +340.
Flyweight Title Bout: Moreno vs. Pantoja 3
There’s another title up for grabs this Saturday during International Fight Week, too — Brandon Moreno is eager to defend his title against Alexandre Pantoja. Moreno (21-6-2) is a two-time champion who currently ranks in 9th place for ESPN’s pound-for-pound ranking.
Pantajo (25-5) is ranked number 4 in the flyweight rankings. He’s also got two victories over Moreno. You might think that it makes him the favorite this Saturday, but his last fight was over a year ago. Bookmakers have Moreno at about a -200 favorite and Pantajo around +160 underdog.
Who’s taking the flyweight title? We’ll find out on Saturday evening!
