NordVPN now has a dedicated app for Apple TV. The new app, available on Apple’s App Store, will allow users to access their favorite local TV shows and movies from abroad, boost streaming speeds, and keep hackers at bay, NordVPN said on Monday.
“A dedicated VPN app for Apple TV will allow our users to ensure cybersecurity and protect their privacy. Moreover, a VPN can even improve the streaming experience,” Vykintas Maknickas, the head of product strategy at NordVPN, said in a press release.
Since the rollout of Apple’s tvOS 17 in September — which added support for third-party VPN apps — several virtual private network (VPN) providers have released dedicated apps for Apple TV. NordVPN is the latest VPN to join the ranks after ExpressVPN launched an Apple TV app earlier this month.
Until now, users have had to resort to workarounds like installing a VPN on a Wi-Fi router to connect their Apple TVs to a VPN.
A Dedicated NordVPN App for Apple TV Users
NordVPN said its dedicated tvOS app protects users from online threats.
“Users often forget that mobile phones and computers are not the only gateways to your network for cybercriminals. A smart TV is usually connected to the internet, so it can also be hacked, and cybercriminals can spy on users, steal data, or even try to access other devices on the home network,” Maknickas added.
The new NordVPN app for Apple TV also addresses common issues linked to streaming, like internet throttling. Sometimes, when you engage in data-intensive activities like streaming or gaming, your internet service provider (ISP) can throttle your connection.
“This means one thing — buffering, especially for high-definition or 4K streams. If that’s the case, NordVPN comes in handy by concealing your activity. This way, your ISP cannot throttle your traffic based on its type,” NordVPN explained.
A VPN also allows you to access your streaming library even in a country where the streaming service doesn’t operate. You can unblock the streaming libraries of other countries, too, and enjoy movies and shows that aren’t available in your country.

How to Set Up NordVPN With Apple TV
Setting up NordVPN on your Apple TV (tvOS 17 or later) is straightforward. Simply follow these steps:
- Go to the App Store on your Apple TV.
- Search for NordVPN and select it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download the app.
- You will be asked if you have a Nord Account. If you don’t, you can create one.
- Once you sign in to a new or existing account, click the “Quick Connect” button.
