Atlas VPN announced on Monday that it is shutting down its service and will migrate existing premium users to NordVPN.
The company said it is facing “insurmountable challenges,” prompting the decision to cease its operations.
“These [challenges] include rapidly advancing technological demands, a highly competitive market, and the escalating costs of providing top-tier services,” Atlas VPN explained. “These factors have led us to conclude that continuing to operate Atlas VPN is not sustainable in the long term.”
Atlas VPN announced that all premium users will automatically be migrated to NordVPN from April 24 until the end of their current subscriptions — at no additional cost. Unfortunately, free users won’t be transferred to NordVPN, but you can get NordVPN at a discount and enhance your online safety.
Launched in 2019, Atlas VPN was known for its affordable subscription plans. It also had a freemium service that ranked among our best free VPNs, offering a range of features usually reserved for premium users.
Premium Subscribers Will Be Transferred to NordVPN
Atlas VPN said users will receive an email from NordVPN with instructions on how to set up their accounts. “You’ll receive an email from NordVPN with a password creation link. Once you’ve created your password, you’ll be able to log in and set up your NordVPN account,” the company explained in its blog post.
Google Play and Amazon will handle the subscriptions of users who signed up to Atlas VPN through their respective services, as those users will be migrated to NordVPN as well. However, users who signed up through Apple’s App Store will have their accounts terminated on April 25 and receive a refund for the time left on their subscription.
Migrating Atlas VPN subscribers won’t be able to renew their subscription with NordVPN automatically. Instead, Nord will provide instructions on how users can create a new account.
NordVPN offers most of the same features as Atlas VPN, and users who have opted for additional services will receive equivalent add-ons. “Specific features may vary, but NordVPN offers a comprehensive set of security features that we believe will meet or exceed your expectations,” the VPN provider explained.
