Following Leclerc’s penalty, he was mathematically ruled out of winning the championship with four races to go, which means that Max Verstappen took his second World Championship in Japan.

History repeats itself exactly 11 years on as the Dutchman is emulating his predecessor Sebastian Vettel who won his first title with Red Bull in Abu Dhabi and his second in Japan the following year — also on October 8! Vettel managed to end the Japanese Grand Prix in an incredible photo finish for sixth place, just 0.011 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso!
