Bumble ban explained: Can you get unbanned from Bumble?

Bumble is an online dating app with strict Community Guidelines that keep the platform safe and inclusive. However, violating the Community Guidelines may result in a permanent, irrevocable profile suspension. And, as Bumble has a zero-tolerance policy for violations of its Community Guidelines, any of the following reasons may get you permanently blocked on Bumble:

  • Inappropriate content or behavior
  • Harassment, hate, or abuse
  • Misrepresentation or fraud
  • Violating legal or safety policies
  • Disrespecting the platform’s purpose

If you violate any of these guidelines, you could get banned from using the app for good. Once banned, Bumble users are not allowed to create new accounts to bypass the restriction.

While you may not have intended to violate their guidelines, and it feels like your Bumble account got blocked for no reason, other users may have perceived your behavior as inappropriate or disrespectful. Bumble may have received several reports about your behavior, contributing to the consequent ban.

Luckily, there are ways to get around the Bumble ban, ranging from appealing to customer support to changing your device ID. Read this article to learn the 4 proven methods of getting unbanned on Bumble.

How to get unbanned from Bumble: 4 proven methods

It’s often not easy to get unbanned from Bumble. There are three methods you can try to get unbanned from Bumble: contacting the Bumble support team to request a review of your ban, creating a new account, and changing your IP address and GPS location. We’ll discuss these methods below.

Note:

Bumble does not give refunds for banned premium accounts. As such, when Bumble bans you, you lose access to paid Bumble features and subscriptions. You also lose any matches you had prior to the ban. The methods below don’t restore your purchases or your previous matches, except for getting your appeal approved.

Method 1. Appeal your Bumble app ban

If you violated Bumble’s Community Guidelines, the profile ban is permanent. But if you didn’t do anything wrong, you can appeal the ban by contacting Bumble support. If you strongly believe your Bumble ban is a mistake, then it’s worth contacting Bumble and making an appeal.

How to appeal a Bumble ban

Bumble has no formal process to appeal bans. However, it does state that you’re “welcome to reach out to [its] support team” if you believe Bumble has erroneously taken action on your account or content. If that’s the case, you have the right to appeal Bumble’s decision within a six-month period.

Here’s how to get unbanned from Bumble by appealing the ban:

  1. Go to https://bumble.com/help or search for “Bumble Help Center” in your browser.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and click “Contact Us” or select a related topic like “Report a technical issue” or “My account was blocked.”
  3. Fill out the contact form, including the following details: Your full name; The email or phone number linked to your Bumble account; A brief explanation stating that you believe the Bumble ban was a mistake and would like to appeal it.
  4. Once you’ve filled out the form, submit it. You’ll receive a confirmation that Bumble has received your message.
  5. Wait for a response – Bumble typically replies within a few business days or 48 hours. Check your email, including spam folders, regularly.
  6. If Bumble requests more information or clarification, reply promptly and politely.

Afterward, you will need to wait up to 48 hours to receive word from Bumble regarding your ban. They’ll send their decision to the email address you provided in the form.

Method 2. Create a new Bumble account

Creating a new Bumble account requires a Facebook account, an Apple ID, or a phone number to sign up for the service.

Since Bumble has already flagged your information, you will need a new Facebook account or phone number to create a Bumble account. Similarly, Bumble may also recognize you if you use the same payment method as your old blocked Bumble account.

If Bumble banned you without a good reason and your appeal is unsuccessful, creating a new account could be an option. However, note that Bumble disallows creating a new account after they ban you. As such, you risk getting another ban.

Some Reddit users have even shared stories suggesting that Bumble uses facial recognition software to detect profiles created to circumvent a ban. If this is true, it could be even more challenging to create a new account.

How to make a new Bumble after being banned

After being banned, you will need to use a set of new credentials and potentially masking your device’s identity to create a new Bumble account. This information includes a new phone number, a different social media account (Facebook, Google, or Apple), a new email address, and a new payment method if you plan to use the premium subscription. Using a VPN and changing your device’s hardware ID can also help prevent Bumble from recognizing the device tied to your profile ban.

Here’s how to create a new Bumble account after being banned

  1. Delete your old account completely.
  2. Get a new phone number.
  3. Create a new email address.
  4. Use a different device to create the new profile or reset your current one. Bumble tracks device IDs, so it is necessary to use a different smartphone or tablet, or reset your current device to factory settings.
  5. Change your IP address. The easiest way to do it is to use a reliable VPN, like Surfshark, and connect to a server in your preferred location.
  6. Set up a new Bumble account with your new set of credentials

Method 3. Change your device ID

If creating a new Bumble account didn’t work, then Bumble may have blocked your device ID.

Many dating apps, such as Tinder, Hinge, and Grindr, block users’ device IDs in order to keep them from creating new accounts. Bumble mentions in its privacy policy that it collects theunique device identifier” of anyone who uses its platform for marketing purposes.

If you suspect Bumble is banning you based on your device ID, follow the steps below.

Warning:

The methods below for assigning a new ID to your device involve performing a factory reset. Before doing a factory reset, you should always make sure to back up all of the data you want to keep as your phone will be wiped clean!

Change your device ID on Android

  1. Visit your Settings app and select “General Management.”
  2. Choose “Reset” and then “Factory Data Reset.”
  3. Select “Erase All Data.”

Change your device ID on iOS

  1. Visit Settings.
  2. Choose “General.”
  3. Find and select “Reset.”
  4. Choose “Reset All Contents and Settings.”

Bumble may still recognize you because of the data saved in your iCloud. To delete data in your cloud, do the following:

  1. Visit Settings.
  2. Select “Apple ID” and then pick “iCloud.”
  3. Click on “Manage Storage.”
  4. Select Bumble and delete all your data.

Method 4. Change your IP address and GPS location

If you tried to create a Bumble profile with completely new information, but Bumble keeps blocking you, it’s likely that the platform has blocked your IP address. However, even then, you can use a VPN to hide your real IP address, making it seem like you’re connecting from a different location.

Here’s how you can change your IP address with a VPN and regain access to Bumble:

  1. Select a reliable VPN to mask your real IP address. I recommend Surfshark, as it’s a very secure and private service.
  2. Download the VPN app and install it on your device.
  3. Launch the app and connect to a VPN server in your chosen location.
  4. As an additional measure, clear browser cookies and cache to better mask your real location.
  5. Head to Bumble and create your account with new credentials while connected to the VPN server.

Best Bumble VPN: Surfshark

Surfshark is the best Bumble VPN, as it offers thousands of high-speed servers to obtain a new IP address to get around the Bumble ban. Additionally, the fast connection speeds ensure a smooth browsing experience, while the security features will keep your online activities private.

Note:

When we tested Surfshark with Bumble, we successfully accessed the app. However, we only saw profiles from our real location, not from where the VPN server was located. We connected to a server in Miami, Florida, but only saw profiles from our physical location in the Netherlands.

Why would Bumble ban you?

Bumble may permanently ban users for various reasons, including:

Infographic showing why does Bumble ban users
  • Inappropriate behavior. Harassment, hate speech, or abusive language targeting other users results in a profile ban.
  • Impersonation or fraud. It is prohibited to create and use a profile that misrepresents your identity or impersonates another person.
  • Spam or scamming. Using the platform to create scams, fraudulent activities, or unsolicited advertisements can result in a permanent Bumble ban.
  • Multiple accounts. Creating and using multiple accounts without permission can get you banned.
  • Underage use. Registered users must be over 18 years old. Underage use will result in a Bumble profile suspension.
  • Disrespecting the platform’s intention. Actions like trolling or abusing match features may result in a ban.

How to prevent getting banned by Bumble

As we’ve seen above, there are plenty of reasons for which Bumble could ban you. Below you’ll find our tips to prevent Bumble bans. Use these tips in conjunction with the causes for Bumble bans mentioned above.

  • Be mindful of your language when chatting and see if it conflicts, even if unintentionally and subtly, with Bumble’s community guidelines. For instance, a Reddit user found himself banned for mentioning his small business to a match, even though they were only making small talk.
  • Don’t overdo social media mentions. It’s fine to include one or two social media handles, but don’t overdo it. Also, make sure you include other text in your bio.
  • Secure your account with a strong password so you can avoid getting hacked. If a malicious actor gets a hold of your account, they may get your account banned on purpose as a prank or as revenge.
  • Use a solid VPN, such as Surfshark, to protect your IP address from being logged by Bumble. This should prevent Bumble from banning you on an IP level.

Violating these or any other rules listed in Bumble’s Community Guidelines can lead to a permanent Bumble profile ban.

Final thoughts: Get unbanned from Bumble today

A Bumble banned account is not easy to recover if you’ve violated its strict Community Guidelines. However, it is not impossible, and there are several ways you can get unbanned from Bumble

  1. If you think you got blocked on Bumble for no reason, appeal your ban to customer support
  2. Create a new Bumble account with new credentials.
  3. Change your device ID; remember to back up your data beforehand.
  4. Change your IP address using a reliable VPN, like Surfshark.

For best success, use a VPN with a built-in GPS spoofer. This additional feature should make it easier to get around the Bumble ban and create a new profile. My top recommendation for a VPN with a GPS spoofer is Surfshark, as in addition to this advanced feature, it also offers fast connections, low costs, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Hi! I am also having problems getting my account unbanned, I got a new phone number and registered with a VPN and when I go make an account and get the code to my phone number it doesn’t give me the code so I choose the option of getting a phone call, when I do that and put it in it says I’m blocked, I got a new Apple ID and followed the steps please help! Thanks

      Hi TJ,
That is really inconvenient. Did you try to log in with your original account first, or did you make one from scratch? If you tried to log in with your old account first, Bumble might already have connected that info to this device, too, which could be the cause of the issues.

Hi Nathan. I followed all the steps above- reset my iPhone to factory settings and used VPN which was set to my location New York, got new phone number (but used old iphone), got 6 digit code and then when Bumble asks me my name which I typed- the arrow in the lower right corner is disabled one I press it to finish completing new profile. Why is it happening? What went wrong? Does Bumble somehow see my Apple ID when I download the app? I did not upload any pictures... I stops me once I put my name. Any other suggestions?

    • Priscilla Sherman

      Hi Olga,
We're very sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing. The fact you're unable to continue creating your profile could indeed mean Bumble is recognizing you based on your Apple ID, as you suggested. There could also be an error because of the VPN you're using. In our article, we suggest making sure your GPS location matches the location linked to your IP address (New York, in this case) with a GPS spoofer or using Surfshark's built-in GPS tool. Have you tried this? Also, consider creating a new Apple ID and trying again. Please let us know if you have any luck after trying the above. Lastly, although somewhat unlikely, there could simply be an issue with the app. Therefore, please also try to re-install Bumble or check if there's an update you've missed.
